Heart rate reserve (HRR) is the difference between the predicted maximum heart rate (using the various formulae) and the resting heart rate.trans Heart Rate Reserve.

HRR =  HRmax minus HRrest.

As described under resting heart rate, in athletes the resting heart rate is low and therefore the heart rate reserve is more. Percentage of HRR is percentage of VO2 reserve. (Vo2 is milliliters of oxygen per body weight per minute that you can utilize. Vo2 reserve is the difference between your VO2max and VO2 rest).
