Allergy Symptoms.

Symptoms of Allergy are  seen affecting  usually three systems of the body  namely:

1.      Symptoms of  Skin Allergy.

2.     Symptoms of  Respiratory Tract Allergy such as nasal allergy and lung allergy.

3.     Symptoms of Digestive Tract Allergy due to food allergy such as stomach allergy.

4. In severe cases of anaphylactic shock symptoms, the cardiovascular system is also affected.

1) Skin Allergy Symptoms with Pictures of Skin Rashes.

a) Skin rash or urticaria also called hives,

Skin rash or Hives appear as reddish spots on the skin. They appear as red raised patches or may be seen over a wider area of the body.  They are extremely itchy. They are  due to food allergy or drug allergy.  They can also be caused by skin contact to an allergen.

b) Contact dermatitis.

As the name suggests, this is a skin allergy due to skin contact with certain plants like Poison ivy, chemicals , metals, latex,etc. They are reddish, more severe patches, localized and very itchy.

c) Eczema:

In this  condition,  the skin develops scales. There is itching and pain. If infected, purulent discharge may be present. It is due to food allergy which comes due to eating foods like fish, eggs  and milk. Its location is usually on the knees and elbows. It is very chronic and  usually, treatment is only symptomatic as it is difficult to treat.

2) The Respiratory Symptoms of Allergy:

a) Allergic Rhinitis.  (also called Hay fever).

Allergic Rhinitis causes sneezing, running nose, redness and itching of the        eyes.

b) Bronchial Asthma.

This allergic reaction,  results due to narrowing of the bronchi (airways in the lungs). This narrowing  is called broncho constriction. Due to this narrowing, enough air does not reach into the lungs and  this results in shortness of breadth. The breathing becomes noisy and there is associated cough with mucus.

c) Allergic sinusitis.

This results in inflammation of the sinuses and mucus formation in them. This causes a blocked nose and headache..

3) Symptoms of Food Allergy.

These symptoms are  due to food allergy which comes about due to eating of foods. Food Allergies are due to certain foods which are mentioned in allergy causesFood allergy symptoms are mentioned below.

  • Abdominal pain.
  • Flatulence.
  • Abdominal cramps.
  • Diarrhea.
  • Vomiting.

4)  Anaphylactic Shock.

Anaphylactic shock is caused by injection of a medication into the body. All people may not be allergic to the medicine. The most common medicine  which may give rise to this allergic reaction is Penicillin.

Anaphylactic shock symptoms will present   with symptoms of skin allergy, respiratory system allergy , Digestive tract allergy with an additional involvement of the cardiovascular system. as mentioned above, but in more severe manner.  Death can result if not treated promptly. A  less severe reaction of this sort may also  be caused by   sting of an insect like the bee.   The following anaphylactic symptoms will  be seen:

  • Sweating.
  • Tightness and pain in the chest.
  • Fall in blood pressure.
  • Oedema
  • Loss of  consciousness.
