The Pink Ribbon.

Pink ribbon internationally symbolizes breast cancer awareness. The pink color identifies the wearer as a supporter of the breast cancer awareness program. The pink ribbon and other products such as pink bracelets and pink clothes are usually seen being worn during the breast cancer awareness month, which is October, every year.

Cancer Ribbons.

The meaning behind the awareness ribbon depends on its color. Just as a red ribbon is synonymous with Aids, the pink ribbon came to be identified with breast cancer awareness. A pink and blue ribbon symbolizes breast cancer in men which is very rare. A yellow ribbon symbolizes awareness for bone cancer and a lavender ribbon is a symbol of cancer (all kinds).

Pink ribbons were first used synonymously with breast cancer awareness in 1991. The Susan G. Komen Foundation gave pink ribbons to the participants in its race in New York for breast cancer survivors.

The very next year, the breast cancer pink ribbon came to be identified as an international symbol of breast cancer awareness.

The color pink was chosen because it is identified with the female gender in many western countries. Many organizations which promote breast cancer awareness do use pink colored logos.

What does “Pink” mean.

The color pink shows hope for breast cancer in the future, instills fear of breast cancer in people and reminds people of the need of breast cancer screening. It also reminds of the charitable people and organizations behind the breast cancer awareness program. Think pink and wear pink is what characterizes the breast cancer awareness program.
