Herpes Treatment.
As mentioned in the earlier posts, there is no cure for herpes. These herpes cures are aimed basically to tone down the severity of the herpes infection, reduce recurrences of herpes infection and prevent spread of the herpes infection to the other parts of your body like your face, mouth (which can cause oral herpes) and your eyes (ocular herpes). Do follow these tips on herpes remedies as explained below.
Treating Herpes.
- Nutritious Diet to increase body resistance and increased fluid intake to get rid of toxins and deacidify body to keep body environment unfavorable for infection
- Cleaning of affected area. Wash the affected part twice a day with water. Pictures of herpes lesions are shown and explained in Herpes Symptoms. Do not apply soap. Dry the area well by dabbing with a very soft absorbent towel or cotton. Do not rub. Do not touch the sores. Drying the affected part with a hair drier will be better.
- Topical Herpes Treatment. During the attack, after drying the part as stated above, topical antibiotic creams are applied lightly on the affected part and antibiotic and anti fungal powder is sprinkled over it. This will contain the infection. However, resistance to these creams is often encountered. The powder will help keep the affected part dry.
- Genital Herpes Treatment. In males, the prepuce of the penis should be drawn back , washed and dried. After applying the topical cream and powder, the prepuce should be returned to its normal position. Make sure that the pubic hair does not get entangled in the prepuce while returning it to its original position. This can cause a cut on the prepuce at times of penile erection and predispose to a herpes bout.
- Medicines for herpes. There is no cure for herpes. However, anti viral drugs like Famvir, Zovirax and Valacyclovir are prescribed and should be started immediately, within six hours of the onset of the infection. Starting Famvir late reduces its effectiveness. Oral therapy or injections are useful in controlling the severity of the herpes infection.
- For recurring Infections. 70% of people with herpes have about 6 recurring bouts every year. Suppressing these recurring infections with a long term daily dose of famvir is sometimes prescribed. Side effects of famvir such as headache, weakness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, skin allergy to famvir and reduced WBC and platelet count may be experienced. Your attending physician shoul;d be consulted on this.
- Being a viral infection, it is self limiting and subsides on its own unless superadded bacterial infection sets in, in which case antibiotics may have to be taken.
- Wear loose and ventilating under wear and clothing.
- Do not touch the sores with your fingers. If there has been contact with the sores, make sure you wash your hands well with soap and water. Such an unwashed hand can transmit the herpes infection to your mouth or eyes on touch. Keep your towels and linen to yourself to avoid spreading herpes infection to others.
- Pubic hair should be trimmed during a bout of herpes.
- Avoid contact with your partner during a herpes outbreak to avoid spreading the infection. Remember, condoms cannot stop the spread of herpes.
