a) Keep the monitor at a distance of about two feet from the eyes. At night, your room must have some other diffuse light . Do not sit in a dark room with just the computer on. Try and get those glasses which have a faint tint. All these steps will help lessen the strain on our eyes due to the continuous glare from the monitor.

b) Avoid staring continuously at the monitor. Take frequent breaks ( say every 15 to 20 mins} and look out the window at a far away object , say at a distance of 20 ft or 30ft or say 40ft. Look at a tree and its green leaves (green is the colour of nature and pleasant to the eyes} and don’t just look at it , but focus on the leaves and try to see the details. This is to ensure that the muscles of the eye lens spring into action from their previous position and adjust the lens to see the tree leaves. This will ensure that the eye muscles are not locked in one position for a long time and will prevent them from getting strained. This frequent practice will allow the eye muscles to contract and relax at intervals and thus exercising them.
However, if a window is not available, say as in a big enclosed IT office hall, one can always focus on any object at the end of the hall. The idea is to make the eye lens focus on something far away.
c) During the day , [maybe 3 or 4 times] rub your palms together till they are warm and hold them against both the eyes in such a way, that the eyes rest between the two mounds of the palm just above the wrist and the warmth is felt by the eyes. Gently move your eyes clockwise a few times and then anti-clockwise. This will also exercise the other eye muscles and strengthen them. You don’t have to be aggressive about it—- just do it gently.
d) Do the following at night just before lying down to sleep:- In the morning, collect half a cup of milk and keep it aside for the night . This milk should be raw and is not to be boiled. . At night, just before lying to sleep, dip two cotton balls in this milk and after they are properly soaked, squeeze them so that the milk does not drip from them , but they stay fairly moist. Make them into flat circles and place them on each eye , in such a way that the eyes are completely covered. Let them stay in that position for the whole night. Don’t worry if they fall off during the night. They will fall anyway, when they dry up.
e) Vitamin C and A are beneficial to the eyes and try to take them through natural sources like citrus fruits and vegetables or meat and fish. At extreme times, it may be necessary to replenish our body by tablets fortified with these vitamins.
Just these five tips will help you keep your eyes (your most important sense) free from any defect. Follow those tips.
